We had a couple of days of high winds and I'm glad that we were traveling from west to east as in some places the tumble weeds were passing us by.
As an ex-geologist/geophysicist, I found the rock formations in Wyoming amazing. From the car it looked as if there were many old river beds within the road cuts. Knowing that we were somewhere around 7000' in elevation, in some places, and seeing ancient riverbeds brought home to me that while I believe so much in science and the big bang, there must be great powers in the universe - and it isn't man. The beauty of the land, the sky, and the high plains along with millions of years of history allow me to know that there must be a creator. I'll leave it at that for today!
Still watching your progress Bro. Travel safe, we were just watching the weather channel and all the snow and blow in your path. Hope that you and Janet miss it. Remember that arriving a day late is better then not arriving.
ReplyDeleteWhen we can acrossed I70?? into Denver in May, we just hung at Grand Junction, CO for an extra day rather than chain up for the Vail and Wolf Creek passes.
Travel Safe.
That was a good choice. We had some major winds coming out of Rock Springs with some snow coming across the road, but just took it slow and easy.
ReplyDeleteIn response to your comment the other day, we close on the Inn at Riverbend, just outside of Pearisburg, VA on November 30, 2010. We have left a few extra days in our travels just in case we have to hang out and enjoy Salina, Kansas or something.
When are you planning on doing the Appalachians?
If you look in our photos on FB - (this is laughing after Janet's homeless comment) we are planning on becoming 'groundless'. We will have a home, but it will be where we park it. OR, I don't know where or what state we will be sleeping in tonight, but it will be in my bed.
ReplyDeleteIf the economy improves to the point where we can sell the house, we're gone.
Salina KS - we were there in May and October. May on the way back from Yuma AZ where we bought our trailer. We stayed in Assaria, KS(10 ~ miles south of there) for a day or 2 with some friends. Nice little town, had dinner at the Golden Corral in Salina. Toured the town, etc.
October where we went to a large truck / trailer camping rally in Hutchinson, KS. If you get down there (probably not) but they have a salt mine that we toured, (kinda neat) and a Space Museum. A few of the astronauts can from the area. That was very interesting and if you are into that, plan of several hours, we did it in 4 but could have spent several more there.
Virginia, looking like in the spring, maybe. $$ are a little tight right now, supporting the house. Unemployment is at 13+ % and that is with 5000 people per week leaving the state. Really, I mean, REALLY, depressed here.
I think that I found your place.

Got to run, it has warmed up outside, work to do.
